Roaming first
Bosnia and Herzegovina is outside the EU. That matters for your phone, because the roaming arrangements many UK and European networks apply in the EU may not cover it. We could not verify any provider’s terms for visitors to Bosnia. Before you travel, look up your own network’s roaming charges for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and ask what a day or a week would cost. If the answer is poor value, a local SIM or an eSIM is the usual alternative.
Roaming is also one item on the wider checklist in practical information. Keep your home SIM in a safe place if you swap it, because it holds your number for banking codes.
The three operators
Three operators sell tourist products. Prices below were seen on the operators’ sites on 25 October 2026 and change, so check the links in the sources before you buy.
BH Telecom lists eSIM and prepaid tourist packages:
- Tourist 1: 31.70 KM, 40 GB, 10 days, with 3 KM of call credit
- Tourist 2: 51.70 KM, 100 GB, 30 days, with 5 KM of credit
- Unlimited: 111.70 KM, 500 GB, 30 days
Its packages cover Bosnia and the Western Balkans: Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo. That is useful if you are continuing to Montenegro or elsewhere in the region.
HT Eronet is the operator based in Mostar. Its “!hej Tourist” start package is 20 KM for 20 GB and 30 minutes to networks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Tourist+ starts at 40 KM for 100 GB and 1 KM of credit. The SIM activates on your first call, SMS or data use.
m:tel has “eSIM Travel” and “eSIM Turist” pages and prepaid packs. We did not find prices for its tourist products, so look at its site for current ones.
KM is the convertible mark, the local currency. The money and currency page explains how it relates to the euro.
Where to buy
- BH Telecom. Physical SIMs are sold at BH Telecom shops, at newsstands with an Ultra sticker, and at airports, bus stations and railway stations in Bosnia. The eSIM is bought through the BH Telecom webshop.
- HT Eronet. At its own sales points, and at kiosks, shops and petrol stations.
- m:tel. Its eSIM pages are on its website. We did not confirm where its prepaid physical SIMs are sold, so check its site or ask in a shop.
An eSIM has the advantage that you can buy it before you leave and install it in advance. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked first. A physical SIM means taking out your own and carrying the home one safely. Bring your passport in case a shop asks for identification, though we have not confirmed whether any of them do.
Which should you pick?
Match the package to the length of your stay. BH Telecom’s Tourist 1 runs for 10 days and its Tourist 2 for 30 days, so the validity period may decide it before the data allowance does. Heavy daily use of maps, tickets and photo uploads over a longer stay points to the larger allowances.
If you are crossing into Croatia, remember that these packages are for Bosnia and the Western Balkans, and Croatia is not in the list we saw. Check coverage with the operator before you rely on the data there. If you are working out how to reach Mostar in the first place, see getting there.
Before you go
- Look up your home network’s roaming charges for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- Decide between a physical SIM and an eSIM, and check that your phone is unlocked if you choose a SIM.
- Note the validity period of any package as well as the data allowance.
- Save your accommodation address and the emergency numbers in your phone. GOV.UK gives 112 as a general emergency number and 124 for an ambulance.
- Download offline maps while you still have a good connection.
Wifi
Cafés and places to stay often advertise wifi. We have not checked any particular venue, so do not rely on it in a specific place. If you need a connection to download a boarding pass or a ticket, do it while you are at your accommodation, and ask them to confirm the wifi works before you book.
Public wifi networks are less secure than your own data connection. Avoid logging in to banking apps on them. The is Mostar safe page covers general precautions, and emergency numbers are listed there too, so save them in your phone.
